My most hated phrase is “Close enough for government work”, or just simply, “close enough.” Darlings…either it’s excellent, or it isn’t.
I made a commitment to personal excellence in radio back in 1971. The best voiceover talent in the world, Neilson Ross, listened to a commercial I had just recorded that had a teeny tiny little glitch in it. I said, “Close enough for government work.”
He handed me back the reel and told me, “Don’t ever say that again in your radio career. Make a decision today to either be excellent, or go to work for someone who doesn’t care.”
Today, make a commitment to excellence in YOUR business.
